Team MA Elite Concludes Successful 4th Season of Play
2018 Team MA Elite 7-v-7 Football Squad

Bayville, New Jersey – Team MA Elite 7v7 program concluded their 2018 season at the War on the Shore tournament, hosted by Air Sports Group over Memorial Day weekend.  MA Elite posted an overall tournament record of 2 wins and 3 losses while playing against opponents such as CT Prime Hustle, Next Level Greats, ASG, ASG Silver, and the Future Legends.

All-Tournament team members:

Tariq Lucona ‘19 - Cambridge Rindge and Latin

Zukudo Igwenagu ‘19 - Worcester Academy

The offense was led by quarterbacks  Luke McMenamin ‘19 Milton High School and Johnathan Bunnell ‘21 St. John’s Prep, who connected on numerous touchdowns through the air over the weekend tournament.

Lucona and Igwenagu were the recipients of many passes over the weekend, along with a pair of rising sophomores from Newton North in Evan Thompson ‘21 Newton North and Dante Atwood ‘21 Newton North.

The Defense also stepped up as well and made numerous pivotal plays when needed, especially in the secondary, which was suffocating at times with strong play from Igwenagu, Kyle Canada ‘19 Newton North, Michael DiPlacido ‘21 Assabet Valley Tech and David Carriero ‘19 Haverhill.

The linebackers were also fantastic, with Steven Bua ‘21 St. John Prep, Justin Jameson ‘19 Oakmont and Elias Grinnell ‘21 Tilton School helping to provide a strong and reputable linebacking corps.

“It was a real eye-opener for the freshman in our program.” head coach Will Croom said. “They got to see what is coming up next for them, and what it will take to become a high-level college football prospect. It was a thing of beauty to see their confidence grow with each game. I know this confidence and off-season experience will translate in a positive way when they go back to playing for their respective high school programs.”

Croom, an assistant coach at Middlesex School in Concord, MA and the owner of 1st String performance added, “I really enjoy the opportunity to be a talent beacon and advocate for Massachusetts and New England student-athletes. It’s a thing of beauty to watch these kids come together, bond and buy into what our program objectives and expectations are. With the success of this program, I am eager for next year and I am already in the recruiting process to identify some deserving underclassmen candidates. Winning the tournament would have been great and all, but we did not come here for that. It was about the exposure and the college recruiting aspect for my Mass Elite kids and for the state of Massachusetts."

MA Elite concluded their fourth season of play under Croom and it was another successful run, as the program continues to garner National recognition and scholarship offers for MA Elite Players.

Recruiting Updates:

QB Parker McQuarrie ’20 of St Paul's School (NH) has had a very busy off-season, camping at Rivals, and The Opening Elite 11 Regionals. He recently picked up his first offer which was a big one, from the University of Michigan.

Lawrence Academy signal caller Brady Martin ’20 is also seeing his recruiting heat up after a strong performance at Rivals and the Elite 11 Regionals. North Carolina and Rutgers are showing strong interest in Martin, with their recruitment.

Zukudo Igwenagu ‘19 Worcester Academy is a physical specimen and one of the highest recruited players in the Bay State. Igwenagu has picked up offers from Akron, Kent State, Buffalo, Rutgers, Rice University, UMass Amherst and Temple to date.

After a successful run of commitments from players in the Class of 2018, including:

Johnny Rosario - Merrimack College, Shane Frommer - Yale University, Duane Binns - Milford Academy (NY) (former URI commit), Joey Everett - Assumption college, Preston Parsons - Princeton University, William Crowley - Bridgton Academy and Jack McNeil - Bryant University, the future is bright for the MA Elite student-athletes, following their motto of, “We don’t create your success, we create opportunity for you to make your success.”
