RJ Noel Commits to Sacred Heart University
RJ Noel

Record breaking Lowell High (MA) quarterback RJ Noel ’12 has committed to Sacred Heart University next season to play quarterback for the Pioneers.

Noel had a spectacular senior season in 2011 in which he passed for 2,316 yards and 22 touchdowns to go along with 1,136 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns.

Noel was named NEPS player of the week during the 2011 season as he threw for 515 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for 141 yards and one TD in a 44-41 loss to Nashua South (NH).

Noel informed NEPS of his decision Monday evening and further elaborated on his commitment Tuesday. His decision came down to Sacred Heart and the University of New Haven.

On his committment to Sacred Heart:

"I liked alot of things about the school and the football program," said Noel. "I waited until yesterday for them (SHU) to offer and they finally did and since I liked it at Sacred Heart so much I accepted their offer and committed last night (Monday). I plan on playing QB as the coaching staff has told me that I could do a lot of great things for SHU Football."

On his senior season:

"Coming into my senior year I knew we were going to have a very young team looking for our first winning season in four years," said Noel. "I had no idea that I was going to play as well as I did. A lot of people stepped up and helped me out  including my receivers Gillberto Brown and Jack Galvin. Setting the school records, having a winning season, and having fun with my teammates made my senior year so special."

On his high school career at Lowell:

"My career playing at Lowell High was unbelievable," said Noel. "I went through three head coaches in four years so that made things hard. I got my first varsity action as a sophomore playing on defense and junior year split time as a QB  with a senior in front of me which did not allow me to play every play every game."
