Recap and Photos: Farquharson Helps Lead Concord-Carlisle to League Title

Friday, October 24th, 2014

Kejuan Farquharson '16 - RB

CONCORD, Mass. – It was a battle of the defenses on Friday night, as undefeated Concord-Carlisle and second place Wayland went head-to-head for the Dual County League Small Title.

Despite trailing early in the contest it would be the Patriots, who overcame an early deficit to dominate the second half of play, en-route to a 19-8 win.

The Patriots cranked up the defensive intensity in the second half, shutting the Warriors out after the break.

C-C concludes their regular season with a 6-0 (4-0 DCl Small) record. They now await their scheduled playoff opponent in the Division 3 Northwest first-round.

5 Who Shined

Concord-Carlisle

Kejuan Farquharson ’16 – ATH Farquharson (pictured below) made his touches count on Froday night as the 5-foot-7, 150 lb. RB/WR was the difference maker on offense for the Patriots. The junior scored on runs of 27 and 5 and totaled 68 yards on 10 caries on the night.  Farquharson is a player who is extremely dangerous if given space in the open field. He also showed a toughness and ability to shed tacklers, highlighted by his 27-yard second quarter TD run. Farquharson also recovered a fumble on the defensive side of the ball.

Austin Hoey ’16 – QB – It is no secret that we are big fans of the three-sport (basketball and lacrosse) junior signal caller. While not lighting up the stat or scoring sheet on the evening, Hoey was a steady leader and decision-maker, who made plays when called upon. Hoey showed his ability to scramble under pressure, converting a couple big first downs.

Patrick Crowley ’16 – LB – The junior linebacker made the play of the night for the stingy Patriots defense after C-C took their first lead of the game, at 13-8 in the fourth quarter. On the ensuing possession Crowley stepped in front of the Wayland receiver and took it 30 yards to the Wayland 5-yard line. The interception set up C-C's final touchdown on the night and completely sealed the momentum shift in the second half. Crowley also performed well in run support, as well as the passing game.

Andrew Gemelli ’16 – RB – Gemelli scored the game-winning touchdown for C-C with 8:55 remaining in the fourth quarter. The junior hit the hole on the left side of the line and scored on a 10-yard rushing touchdown. Gemelli is one of C-C's strong and deep stable of running backs, who starred on the night in a ball controlled, defensive led effort.

Wayland

Robert Jones ’15 – QB – Jones fought hard all night and showed off his strong and accurate arm, completing 15 passes for 200 yards yards and one touchdown pass in the loss. The senior did a nice job in and out of the pocket, despite facing the league's top defense.

Also playing well:

Concord-Carlisle – Marlowe Scott ’15 DB, Jack Barrett ’15 LB/TE, Sam Randle ’17 RB, Matt Shenton ’15 DL/C, and Jovan Grant '16 DB.

Wayland– Andy Carmichael '15 WR/LB,  Jimmy Lampert '16 DB, and Ben Jones '16 DL/TE.
