Girls Soccer: Rhode Island Div III North Rivals Central Falls v. MRA
by. Geoff Campbell (Rhode Island contributer)
In last Thursday’s game vs. Central Falls Victoria Baluick began the scoring with a long arching shot from the right hand side of the field which sailed over the goalies’ outstretched arms, scoring the first of her two goals.
A life long soccer player who continues to play in an open indoor league, Marco Debarros is the girl’s soccer head coach at Masters Regional Academy (MRA).
Debarros points to Baluick as an MRA standout who as a junior has many years of club and international travel-team experience that she brings to the field.
Debarros, who serves as Chaplin of MRA where he has taught for 7 years, describes this year’s team as “very young” and in the midst of rebuilding.
According to Debarros three seniors graduated from the team last year but he added, “Given the size of the schools” his team plays he is pleased with MRA’s early season record.
Master’s AD Vasco Foster described a final shot by Baluick to break a 2-2 tie, as, “at the last second” and he added, “The goalie deflected the ball, and the ball hit the goal post at the buzzer.”
Both Master’s and Central Falls’ records move to 1-2-1.
