Freedman Tallies Lone Touchdown in Peabody’s Win over Malden
Noah Freedman '18 - Peabody

PEABODY -- Peabody picked up their first win of the year on Friday night, as they played inspired defense and received a score from running back Noah Freedman '18, shutting out visiting Malden 7-0.

Freedman is expected to be one of the leaders on offense for the Tanners this season.

"It doesn't matter who scores or how many points we put out there, for as long as we get a win," Freedman said after the game. "We lost a tough game last week to start the season so this win is what we worked hard all week to achieve."

The game was scoreless until about midway through the fourth quarter, when Freedman found the end zone, from  8-yards out, with 5:47 on the clock for the Tanners (1-1).

"It was nice to get a touchdown after carrying the ball a lot, but the defense and lineman definitely stepped up tonight," Freedman said.

The 5-foot-9, 175 pound junior rushed for a game-high 86 yards on 16 carries in the win. Freedman saw some varsity action as a sophomore a year ago, but with the graduation of All-State running back Doug Santos '16 (Assumption) and several other key players from last year's team, it opened the door for the speedy Freedman to shine through.

Freedman and the Tanners host rival Beverly this Saturday, at 1 p.m. at Hurd Stadium.

"We are hoping to win the Northeast Conference and make the playoffs." Freedman said. "We start the league schedule next week."
