The Berkshire School (MA) football team finished the 2017 football season with a perfect 8-0 record. They concluded their storybook campaign with a 35-28 win over BB&N in the Hugh Caldera Bowl

The win put the exclamation point on one of the best seasons in school history and the first undefeated season over 40 years.

Berkshire, located out West in Sheffield, Mass., was led by first-year junior quarterback Rayshawn Boswell ’19, who accounted for all five Berkshire touchdowns, rushing for three and throwing for two more, in the championship win.

“We had great success as a team this year,” the Rochester, NY native told Mass Prep Stars. “It was a whole team effort. Coach (Mike) McCabe has been a prime factor in our program’s success. His leadership and attitude shaped our team. I formed such strong friendships with my teammates and I believe that contributed to our team’s chemistry and success.”

One of New England’s elite athletic talents, Boswell arrived at Berkshire School in the fall, after an All-State junior season at Monroe High School in Rochester, NY.

The 5-foot-10, 190 lb. Boswell tore up the NEPSAC as a dual-threat quarterback this year and also excelled as a DB. His standout season earned him numerous post-season accolades including the NEPSAC Class B Player of the Year award, along with Team MVP, Mass Prep Stars Super Team honors, and Boston Globe All-Scholastic and Player of the Year.

“I am very thankful to have received these awards, but I also feel that they are a recognition of the great work my teammates have put in,” Boswell said.

Boswell, who also stars on the hardwood in the winter season for Berkshire, rushed for 850 yards and 20 TDs while throwing for 700 yards and another 10 TDs, in only eight games.

Boswell transferred to Berkshire this year with the full support of his family, who he remains very close to.

“I love my family and I want to have success playing football so that I can make them proud,” Boswell said. “Adjusting to Berkshire from my old high school was a big jump, especially academically. I felt that Berkshire was the right place for me because it presented better opportunities for my future and throughout this transition, I have been consistently improving my grades. I was also recently awarded “Most Improved” academically in the second quarter, for the Junior Class.”

Boswell looks forward to a busy offseason, and the junior, who has seen his recruitment pick up, is excited to embrace the recruiting process.

"My desire is to play football at the highest level,” Boswell stated. “I also want to go to a school where I feel that I am a good fit, where I am wanted, and where I can make an impact. This year at Berkshire, I played quarterback and defensive back, but I am someone who is willing and who has also been blessed with the athleticism to play multiple positions on the field. In college, I want to play any position in which the coaches believe I can help the program succeed.”

The talented Boswell takes a hard-work and humble approach to everything he does, on and off the field. He routinely defers credit and consistently praises his teammates and coaches.

“My mindset is to work hard in order to win games, Boswell said. “We believed in our team and our ability to have success. Coach McCabe preached the message “Prove It” throughout the season and to not take any success for granted.

Through his hard work and exceptional athleticism and ability, Boswell has certainly cemented himself as one of the top prospects in Massachusetts, in the Class of 2019.
