Posted: February 11 2013
Newton South senior point guard Kayla Burton ’13 has been playing at the top of her game as of late in Newton South’s recent wins over Lincoln-Sudbury, Weston and Waltham.
The Lehigh-bound Burton scored 32 points and dished out six assists in a 71-49 highlight win over Lincoln-Sudbury last week.
Burton also had strong games in wins over Weston and Waltham recently including a 26 point, 10 rebound and six assist effort in a 65-50 win over Waltham.
After starting the season 0-2 and 2-3 overall Newton South has now won six of their last nine games.
At 8-6 Newton South needs just two wins in their final six games to qualify for the MIAA state tournament. Newton South missed out on the tournament last year and in a One-on-One interview with Burton in the off-season she stressed the importance of her senior season......
"Last year really prepared us for this year," Burton said over the summer. "Confidence and leadership are the keys. We have a lot of girls returning and we have all been working hard."
Burton and Newton South begin a stretch run of six games in seven days, including two at the IAABO Board 130 Classic at Central Catholic High School (Lawrence) on Sunday and Monday. The tournament features top 15 teams Pentucket and Central Catholic. See more of the schedule here.
