Ty Suggs of Beverly

BEVERLY, Mass. --- Ty Suggs scored 16 points to help the Beverly Panthers defeat the Swampscott Big Blue, 77-54, at the Henry Cabot Lodge Field House at Beverly High School on Friday night.

Swampscott scored the first two points of the game and both teams went back and forth in the opening quarter. Dan Santanello scored 12 of his game high 19 points in the first quarter for Swampscott.

A key point in the opening quarter came when Suggs, a senior forward, came off the bench for Beverly at the end of the quarter to help his team take a 19-16 lead at the end of one.

In the second quarter, the Panthers picked up where they left off as they scored the first five points of the second and began to put the game out of the reach. Beverly led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter and were led by Suggs, Chris Keaton, Aven Jones and Jonangel Franco. Beverly led 43-28 at halftime.

The third quarter proved to be much of the same for Beverly. Swampscott, however, did not give up even though they were down by as much as 23 in the third. Santanello, along with Mike Walsh, who scored 11 points, helped the Big Blue stay in the contest with the Panthers.

In the fourth quarter Beverly would rest many of their starters after extending the lead to 20 points.

“This was an important win for us, especially since we lost a close game (to Salem) earlier this week,” said Suggs. “We are hoping to win every game for the rest of the season.”

With the win, the Panthers improve to 5-3. The Big Blue, after winning three straight games, fall to 3-5.
