Standouts from the Mid-Sumer Classic at UMass (Saturday)
Tyler Breen '14

AMHERST, Mass. --- There were 100 teams participating at the Mid-Summer Classic at UMass Amherst this weekend. In the handful of games that we attended on Saturday we saw some very impressive performances from some of New England;s top talent. Here are some of the top performers from Saturday's action at the Mid-Summer Classic.

Tyler Breen '14 - Top Gun Clams '14 AA, Taft School (CT) - Breen did nothing to question his top billing at the head of the Class of 2014 in New England. The University of Virginia commit has one of the best handles in the region and uses his body well against his defenders to create space and carry the ball to a favorable position.

Dustin Vitagliano '14 - Top Gun Clams '14 AA, Hanover (MA) - Vitagliano showed great dodging ability from the top of the box and had one of the prettiest goals of the day as he broke through the Western Mass. Sharpshooters defense and finished off the move with a beautiful goal.

Matt Lacrooix '13 - Western Mass Sharpshooters, Westfield (MA) - Lacroix was the top FOGO we saw on the day. Not only is Lacroix a top man in the face-off circle but he also shows a great two-way midfield ability as he continues to show off his shot and offensive finishing skills.

Jackson Cabot '13 - Laxachusetts '13 Green, Nobles and Greenough (MA) - Cabot gobbled up countless ground balls and used his speed to pressure the opposing CT Rip It defense. Cabot also showed some strong close defensive skills and great foot work.

Tucker Ciessau '13 - Laxachusetts '13 Green, Scituate (MA) - Ciessau dominated the CT Rip It defense as the Scituate attackman showed off a beautiful shot, intelligent ball control and the ability to finish at the cage and outside of it.

Tucker Mscisz '14 - Top Gun Clams '13/ '14 Aqua, St. John's Prep (MA) -  Mscisz was a pleasant surprise in the Saturday morning session as he showed a nice outside shot from the midfield as well as a great feel for the game in terms of getting open and not forcing the issue.

Colin Delea '13 - NH Tomahawks Purple '13 Philips Exeter (NH) - Delea was a rock in net in for the Tomahawks and almost single handily kept his team in the game against the Clams '13 AA in the an afternoon game. Delea keeps improving every time we see him and the Harvard commit has a bright future in the cage.

Paul Spinney '13 - NH Tomahawks '13, Salisbury (CT) - The UMass commit is becoming one of the most well rounded offensive midfielders in New England. Spinney has a quick release and an explosive first step that helped him finish off a pretty goal against the Clams '13 AA squad.

Chris Pauzer '13 - Top Gun Clams '13 AA, Loomis Chaffee (CT) - The Georgetown recruit showed why he is one of the top midfielders in the Class of 2013. Pauzer is a confident midfielder with a smooth offensive game. He does not waste a step and gets quick separation on his men going to the cage from the top of the box. Pauzer scored twice in the win over the Tomahawks.

Ray Horgan ' 13 - Top Gun Clams '13 AA, Deerfield Academy (MA) - The Army commit was the most impressive close defenseman we saw on Saturday. Horgan is so strong and disciplined and does a great job of moving his feet and finding the opportune time to use his stick checks.

Ryan Macri '13 - Top Gun Clams '13 AA, Governors Academy (MA) - The UNC commit is an opposing defender who did a great job of clearing the ball with the pass but excelled most in his ability to run the field and use his vision to make the necessary clear.
