One on One: Jerickson Fedrick ‘12 Salem (NH) running back

Salem (NH) running back Jerickson Fedrick '12  is no longer one of New England's best kept secrets. Fedrick rushed for 1,569 yards and 30 touchdowns as junior during the 2009-2010 season and has been staying busy this off season. Fedrick recently got back from the Badger 7 v. 7 tournament in New Jersey where his team from New Hampshire went 2-2 on the first day and were eliminated by the #3 seeded team from New Jersey on the final day.

"It was really fun," said Fedrick. "It was good to play against some of the top players in the East.

We caught up with Ferdrick this week in our One on One series to get to know the running back a little better.

When did you start playing football?

JF: I had always played pick up football games since I was very small but I began playing organized football in fourth grade in Lawrence (MA) for the Lawrence Hurricanes.  I started running track in eighth grade and have kept it going ever since.

Who were your biggest influences and those you admired at a young age and today?

JF: My biggest influence at an early age was my cousin Esteban Guzman. He went to the University of Georgia on a full boat for track and to played football. He has had a lot of success and I would really like to follow that road. My family is a really big influence, They have always been there for me over the years.

When did you know that football was something you were good at?
JF: I never really thought football was my "thing" but i just kept playing, trying and good things came out of it. I just keep on doing it.

Can you talk a little about this past season with some of the highlights and areas to improve?
Moving the ball down the field was definitely a highlight for me and I hope to improve on being a better all around player. You can never be good enough.

Looking to next year, what are some of the keys to your teams success? Who do you envision being your toughest competition?

We all need to be smart and focused on the field. We also need to end with our best effort on every play.

Teammates like Max Jacques and Matt Cannone have had success with you over the years. What are some of the things that makes them such good players?

JF: Dedication and desire define Matt, Max and Joey Dipalma, I have known them for many years now and nothing will stop them from trying to get better physically and mentally off the field.

Recruiting:

Can you talk about the recruiting process overall

It is surprising. I want to get my information into more Division 1 programs hands.

What schools are you hearing from the most?

JF: Boston College and UConn.

Can you list an early Top 5? Also any schools that you have taken trips to  you and have planned future trips to?

JF: UConn, BC, UNH, UMaine, and URI.

What are your plans for camps for the upcoming summer?/combines etc?

JF: I will be attending the Nike combine. I will also hopefully be attending the BC camp and I am looking for others as well.

What are your goals for the team next year and for yourself personally on and off the field?

JF: Our team goal is to make the playoffs. My personal goals are to do the best I can in the classroom and do the best that I can on the field as a player. I have also been trying to improve my quickness and explosiveness during the off season.

What are your interests off the field? hobbies, favorite foods, movies?

JF: Serendipity and chick flicks. My favorite food has to be ribs and Spanish rice and my favorite hobby is to shop.

What is something unique about you that many people do not know?

JF: I was fat as a boy.
