DERRY, NH ---  New Hampshire D1 power Pinkerton Academy (1-0) started their 2012 season on a high note as they defeated reigning D2 champion Bishop Guertin (0-1) by a score of 20-3.

Both teams struggled offensively as the game was littered with turnovers and important special teams plays. Despite the lack of offense there was no questioning the Pinkerton Academy Astros' strong defensive play. The Astros' defense nearly pitched a shutout and held BG to 169 total yards from scrimmage.

Madden and St. Onge in he middle: The Astros, led by linebackers Matt Madden '14 and Matt St. Onge '13, controlled the middle of the field as the D-Line neutralized the BG O-line and let Madden and St. Onge rack up multiple double-digit tackle games. Madden (14 tackles, 1 INT) also came up with one of the biggest plays of the game when he stopped a third quarter drive with an INT that he returned into BG territory.

Latimore breaks one: Pinkerton Academy RB Manny Latimore '14 struggled to get going offensively (52 yards rushing) but had the play of the game as he busted a 66-yard punt return for the games first score. Latimore also had a 22-yard TD run called back in the opening half due to a holding call. Expect more big games from Latimore as the junior settles into the feature back role with PA this season.

Additional performances: PA's Chris St. Onge '13 also had a strong game on both sides of the ball as the former QB turned RB scored the games first touchdown from scrimmage on a 6-yard run in the second quarter.

RB and LB Anthony Reale '14 played a strong two way game for the Cardinals. BG also got a strong efforts from senior RB Kevin Kiezuk and junior RB/DB Michael Devereaux, who recovered a big fumble in the end zone and had a few nice hits from the secondary.
