2014 Mass Prep Stars Boys Lacrosse Public School Player of the Year: Nick Marrocco ‘14 Duxbury
Duxbury graduating senior goalie NIck Marrocco '14 is our 2014 Mass Prep Stars Public School Player of the Year for the 2014 season.
Marrocco had a fantastic two-year run as Duxbury's starter in net and finished the 2014 season by helping lead Duxbury (19-4) to a spot in the 2014 Division 1 finals.
Our Mass Prep Stars No. 2 ranked player in the Class of 2014, Marrocco led the staunch Duxbury defense this season by allowing just 3.3 GAA with a 70% Save percentage.
"It has been an amazing two years as a starter for Duxbury," Marrocco told Mass Prep Stars. "I have played with my senior class for so many years and as a team we were really close and that definitely led to some of our success."
The post-season honors have been plentiful for Marrocco, as he was also named a first team All-American for the second consecutive year, a 2-Time Boston Lax All-American game participant, ESPN Boston's Mr. Lacrosse, and the Boston Globe Player of the Year, to name a few.
"As a leader and a goalie, I love being that guy to control a game and change the outcome of the game, as well as firing up my teammates with a big save," Marrocco said. "I like being the guy in high pressure moments and showing my team that we can win any game, whether it be with a big save or just any motivation that I can bring.
Marrocco had one of his best games of the 2014 season in a remarkable 12-save, 2-goal effort against Xaverian. Duxbury defeated Xaverian 6-2 in the Eastern Mass Division 1 semi-final match-up at Harvard Stadium.
"The most memorable game for me was probably this year at Harvard playing Xaverian," Marrocco added. "It was amazing walking out on to the field and seeing all the fans and my town come support us. To me, it felt like a state championship game and it was amazing to win it at Harvard. The feeling of winning there was almost surreal. In that game, my diving save was one of favorite moments and hearing everyone in the stands and sideline (side line rage as we call it) yelling was crazy. It was definitely a moment I'll have forever. "
Marrocco also noted the 2014 win over Nationally ranked Connecticut power Fairfield Prep (CT), the 2013 4-OT thriller against L-S (photos of that game below) and the 2013 OT win over Hingham as other highlights in his Duxbury career.
The Georgetown commit also starred on the summer and off-season circuit with Laxachusetts. Marrocco committed to the Hoyas in the fall of 2012, before taking over the starting duties at Duxbury.
"I'm really looking forward to starting a new career at Georgetown," Marrocco said. "The coaches are amazing and I think we have a lot of talent coming in to make an impact in college lacrosse. I really want to be a part of that and play a key role in changing games and hopefully far in to the playoffs."
