2012 New England Prep Stars Football Player of the Year: Brice McAllister ‘14 RB Suffield (CT)
McAllister helped lead Suffield to another Bowl victory as they defeated Proctor (NH) 34-16 to take the 2012 Norm Walker Bowl title.
McAllister was named NEPS player of the week for his 253-yard and four touchdown effort.
“The feeling of winning the Bowl game was one of the best feelings in the world,” McAllister told New England Prep Stars. “Being able to accomplish your team goals is better than any individual goal you set for yourself.”
Individually McAllister was a standout all season. The junior ran for 1,723 yards and caught 11 passes for 262 more. He totaled 28 touchdowns and also returned kicks and punts and played in the defensive backfield for Suffield.
“This year individually is proof that hard work pays off,” McAllister said. “This off season I devoted myself to getting stronger, faster, and in better shape. Behind my offensive line I was able to do some special things. Over the years I have focused on getting better day by day and working each day to accomplish this. This past offseason my teammate Christian Wilkins ‘15, and I worked extremely hard from running hills to being in the weight room and all that worked paid off.”
McAllister will look to help Suffield continue their successful run next season as they return a gifted group of underclassmen led by McAllister and top New England players in wide receiver CJ Moore ’14 and tight end / DL Christian Wilkins ’15.
“We have a very solid group of returners coming back next year.,” McAllister said. “All of our skill players will be returning and we are excited to see how next year plays out. My roommate CJ (Moore) '14, who I believe is the best receiver in all of New England, is due for a big year next year and has drawn ton of interest from several D-1 schools. Christian (Wilkins) '15 has already received some offers from D-1 programs and was a huge reason for my offensive numbers. Our two slot receivers Drew Mahoney '15 and Tahj Herring '15 have also worked extremely hard and are two up and coming forces on both sides of the ball. With this group of guys returning, I believe we will be very solid next year. “
McAllister also has his sights set on a busy offseason as he looks to continue to improve and begin a busy recruiting period.
“The recruiting process has been very interesting for me,” McAllister said. I have had interest from UConn, Boston College, Virginia, and UMass. Other schools such as Penn State, Missouri, Maryland, and several Ivy League schools have also shown interest. I visited a spring practice at UConn and attended games at BC and UConn this fall.”
McAllister is looking forward to the process and to getting back to work.
“I have to stay humble and hope that more schools began to show interest and that next year is even better than this year because you can never become complacent,” McAllister concluded.
