2012 Football Notes: 10 Top Performers in Week 1
This week we added Massachusetts and Rhode Island to New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine as states who began high school gridiron action. Connecticut and the Prep/Privates join the 2012 season over the next two weekends.
We begin this week as Week No. 1 in our weekly "10 Top Performers" list that will launch each Tuesday morning of the football season.

"10" Top Performances
Each week we highlight 10 of the top performances in New England for the prior weekend of action.
Beverly running back Brendan Flaherty ’12 (pictured above) was our New England Prep Stars athlete of the week. Flaherty amassed 272 all-purpose yards and added four TDs in the Beverly's opening game 34-7 victory over Concord-Carlisle.
Not to be outdone was our next nine to shine:
Nick Peabody ‘13 QB - Barnstable (MA) – Massachusetts' top senior signal caller tossed four TDs and ran for four more in a 55-3 victory over Durfee. Peabody accounted for six of Barnstable's eight TDs.
Darien Fernandez ’13 RB - Wareham (MA) – The senior, who also stars on the hardwood for Wareham, ran for six TDs and 247 yards as Wareham defeated Falmouth 51-14.
Jonathan Thomas ‘14 DB/ RB - St. John's Prep (MA) – Thomas (pictured below) had two interceptions (1 for a TD) and ran for 92 yards on just seven carries in St. John's Prep's 49-6 win over Dracut.

Alex Jette ’13 WR - North Attelboro (MA) - ESPN Boston's player of the week Jette ran for 236 yards on six carries and totaled 345 all-purpose yards and four total TDs in NA's 47-27 vctory over Rhode Island's La Salle Academy.
Marcus Odiah ’13 – RB Burlington (MA) - Odiah ran for 292 yards and three TDs in the Red Devils’ 49-28 victory over visiting Billerica.
Tyler Grant 13 – RB - Exeter (NH) - Grant rushed teh ball 20 times for 197 yards and two TDs in Exeter's 24-20 victory over Pinkerton Academy in a battle for the top spot in NH D1.
Lucas Luopa ’13 – QB Keene (NH) - The senior signal caller completed 13-25 passes for 292 yards and four TDs and also rushed 13 times for 156 yards and two TDs to lead Keene to a 62-27 win over Salem.
Corey McKenzie ’14 RB – Messalonskee (ME) - The junior ran for 269 yards on 22 carries as the Eagles ran over the Lewiston Blue Devils 43-12 in Pine Tree Conference Class A action.
Remington Blue ’14 RB Bishop Hendricken (RI) - The junior tailback scored four TDs and ran for 200 yards to lead the Hawks to a 36-8 victory over St. Raphael in a non-league game on Friday night.
