FOOTBALL SIGNING DAY 2013
Football Signing Day 2013 was a big day in the State of Massachusetts for many future intercollegiate gridiron stars.
The Boston Herald does a great job, per usual, of recapping many of the commitments and signings. See their list here
ESPN Boston also does a nice job compiling a list that also includes many of New England's top targets. See their list here.
It was a big day for many student-athletes and no school impressed more than the Super Bowl Champion Everett Crimson Tide. The big day featured the signings of two of Massachusetts' top talents in Crimson Tide teammates John Montelus (Notre Dame) and Jakarrie Washington (Wisconsin) . Both made their decisions official to the major college powers at Everett High School on Wednesday afternoon.
Gilmer Signs: We caught up with Thayer Academy star running back / defensive back Aaron Gilmer '13 (pictured left) as he embraced his big day on the Braintree campus . Flanked by teammates Archi Jerome '13 (Trinity) and Ikenna Nwokej '13 (Elon) Gilmer made it official and signed with Bryant University. Gilmer was one of several local standouts to chose Bryant, along with BC High's Brandon Owens, Matt Rega (BB&N), Hunter Taute (Xaverian) and Chuckie Keenan (Tyngsborough).
"I was extremely excited to finally sign with Bryant today," Gilmer told Mass Prep Stars. "I visited the campus a couple times over the summer and absolutely loved it. Bryant was the first school to offer me and scholarship and I had felt a great vibe with all the coaches so I felt like it was the right place for me."
The versatile athlete was a mainstay, along with star WR Bryan Vieira (Prep School), Jerome, and Nwokej, in Head Coach Jeff Toussaint's offense over the past few years. Along with junior quarterback and top talent Jack Becker, Thayer was one of the most dangerous offenses in the ISL this season.
My football experience at Thayer was excellent," Gilmer said. "Coach Toussaint is an excellent coach and definitely put me in contact with a lot of college coaches. Over the years at Thayer I played RB, WR, DB, and LB."
