PROVIDENCE – Behind a dominant second half Worcester Academy was able to defeat Bridgton 85-72 last night at the National Prep School Invitational.
Bridgton came flying out of the gates and took the game to Worcester. Bridgton hit five of 10 shots from beyond the arc and were able to disrupt Worcester’s offense enough to keep them off balance. The second half was a totally different story as Worcester buckled down and outscored Bridgton 52-35.
Rene Castro seemed to be everywhere for Worcester. Castro (pictured below) scored 10 points, but it was his six assists, and his ball distribution skills as a whole, that helped key Worcester’s dominant second half. The Butler-commit was also able to grab a pair of rebounds and pick up a block.
--- Worcester’s Matt Mobley led all scorers with 27 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds.
--- Tommy Rivard and Matt Cimino both scored 10 points for Worcester.
--- After shooting 43.3 percent in the first half Worcester improved to 55.6 percent in the second half. Bridgton’s shooting percentage dropped from 40.6 percent to 37.9 percent in the second half.
--- Bridgton was led by 20 points and five rebounds from Andrew Guerroero. Josh Irving pumped in 14 points of his own.
