PROVIDENCE – Notre Dame Prep defeated Wilbraham & Monson 58-51 in an entertaining affair at the National Prep School Invitational at Rhode Island College.
The Crusaders were able to disrupt the Titan attack early and often enough to build up a sizable lead. Notre Dame was led by Jaylen Brantley. Brantley was on fire, racking up a game-high 18 points.
As the game wore on Wilbraham’s sizable front line of Goodluck Okonboh, Karem Kanter, and Luis David Montero were able to grind down the Crusaders, and the deficit. The Titans retook the lead briefly in the second half, but Notre Dame was able to power down the stretch thanks to swarming defense and control on the glass.
--- Curtis Cobb led Wilbraham and Monson with 11 points. He was the only Titan to break double figures. Kamali Bey added nine points of his own.
--- Kansas-Native KJ Pritchard was a spark for the Crusaders. He scored nine points, including a pair of big threes in the second half.
--- The duo of Jamel Artis and Matt Atewe was clutch for Prep. They each scored 11 points.
--- Late in the second half a steal set up a breakaway for Notre Dame’s Roger Moute a Bidias who finished with a monster dunk that proved to be the dagger.
